Dr. Katie (Dewlaney) Welfare is the Associate Director of the Construction Safety Research Alliance. Dr. Welfare received her BS in Architectural Engineering in 2010, her MS in Civil Engineering in 2011, and her PhD in Civil Engineering in 2020 from the University of Colorado at Boulder. Her PhD research was on the human-robot workflow in assembly manufacturing contexts using intelligent material delivery systems (IMDS) and she applied a similar research method in the construction industry to evaluate the perceptions of construction and the human factors climate through mixed methods. Her past research experience has been mainly focused on construction safety and she has four published journal papers. In the spring of 2018, she completed the Graduate Teaching Certificate in the College of Engineering and Applied Science. Dr. Welfare was also an industry professional with over eight years of industry (field and office) experience. Her professional background includes work with general contractors and an owner’s representative consulting firm managing various sized project types from multi-family to municipal; she managed over $265M in construction project cost and 1.7M GSF.
