Managing Safety Transitions
Projects are full of transitions. Work is transferred from one contractor to another, responsibilities shift throughout design and execution, and assets change hands from construction to operations. Each transition creates uncertainty about the hazards that exist, what controls are required, who is responsible, and how risks are communicated. This project will define critical transition points and explore how they impact the risk of serious injuries and fatalities. We will examine how risk assessment, communication, technology, and systems can be used to decrease uncertainty when work changes hands. By studying real projects, we aim to develop practical guidance that strengthens continuity, reduces vulnerability, and ensures that safety is never lost in transition.
