Mental Health Crisis

In phase I of this CSRA-CII joint venture, this project will produce a guidebook to help everyone in our industry have good conversations about mental health.

A joint venture by the Construction Industry Institute and Construction Safety Research Alliance was launched to better understand mental health in the construction industry. The project aims to distinguish valid and reliable knowledge from unsubstantiated propositions and thought models. To that end, the research team is conducting a systematic review of literature from medical science, collecting qualitative and quantitative data from construction workers, and documenting the experiences of practitioners. The team will summarize key knowledge in a practical guide to mental health for the construction professional. The guide will cover fundamentals of mental health, work-related stressors and how they specifically impact construction workers, standards to judge the success or failure of employee assistance initiatives, and how to have better conversations on mental health in workplace.
