SIF Prevention Assessment Tool (SIF-PAT)

After years of research, the CSRA identified a need to help organizations understand their current SIF prevention efforts and identify their next steps. To meet that need, industry leaders developed the SIF Prevention Assessment Tool (SIF-PAT). The SIF-PAT helps organizations evaluate how well their programs align with industry best practices for preventing Serious Injuries and Fatalities. The assessment is intentionally designed to highlight strengths, identify gaps, and provide tailored guidance based on each organization's unique situation.

For best results, open or print the SIF Prevention Roadmap while completing the assessment. It will help you understand where you are today and what actions can move your organization forward.

Stage 1

Introduced

To what extent has training been provided to the target audience? Advance at Nearly All (75%+).

Stage 2

Implemented

Is the tool or process being used competently by the target audience? Advance at Most (50%+).

Stage 3

Integrated

Has there been verification that the topic is woven into everyday activities, conversations and behaviors? Embedded → Verified → Sustainment.

If an answer falls below the bar to advance, you’ll get a tailored recommendation and a link to learning resources, and that activity pauses so you can close the gap before moving on. A few foundational activities won’t block you — you’ll still see the recommendation, but you can continue.

Keep the roadmap open beside this assessment. Refer back and forth as you go — it helps to see where each activity sits, and why the assessment may pause on one.

A few terms before you start

Target audience
The group of people to whom this topic most applies, in line with your organizational structure.

Note: this is specifically flexible, for a few reasons — each organization is different, many topics have different applications, and if you have different business units you could look at each with this assessment.

Sustainment - Stage 3
Providing the support, supplies, and resources necessary to maintain operations, keeping your SIF Prevention Program thriving.

Note: this one is aspirational and really hard — it’s included for exactly those reasons.
